When opportunity comes a calling....

 Sometimes you are looking and sometimes it just comes to you...via a FB post by an old friend and a video.


The week before Labor Day, we were spending a quiet, football hasn't started yet, August evening surfing FB, seeing what the world was doing when we still are not, really, doing anything.  And a friend popped up with a "you won't believe what I did" post.


So I listened to her talk about this new company she is working with and I got to thinking...  what makes a company so exciting, so enticing, so make someone want to jump in?



1. The products might help me....me personally....when I got into my skincare business, my skin was a total disaster from stress as well as taking care of people, beside myself...  I used it.  It worked. I grew a fun business, made some great friends and have helped some amazing people feel better about their skin.


2. The company stands for something I stand for.  This product my friend was selling was founded by a group of FEMALE chemists.  First, love that it is a female group of smart women.  Loved that the group thinks that plant based ingredients are important.  Loved that the products are gluten free (celiacs in my family), vegan, hypoallergenic and animal cruelty free. All those good buzz words that make you feel good about using.



3. The products are affordable.  WHAT?  Yep, I cannot join a company where I cannot afford the products.  The company my friend joined in with had products that helped your scalp get healthy and helped your hair follicles become stimulated :) enough to help your hair grow again?  Now my interest peeked....see #1.



4. The buy in for the company is affordable...Um, my friend said $49.99.  Including the website.  To share products I like to people who are likely going to buy hair products from somewhere....My husband could tell I was going to do it even before I said, "I gotta do it..."



And why?  The company IS BRAND NEW...so all of this scariness, all of this boredom, all of this fear of doing something new could be conquered with joining a new company and adding it to my evenings....because people take care of their hair, even in a pandemic...many of us used Madison Reed or ESalon or other hair color companies to remind us that our hair wasn't as gray as it was showing in May....many of us embraced our gray and kudos to those who can pull that one off and look gorgeous doing it (shout out to you MBC!).  I, am not, that person :).

So exactly one week later, I went on to my friend's website and joined.  From my laptop while sitting on the couch at my son and his fiance's house.  I started a business with a $50 investment, excitement and a readiness to RUN for fun!

I write this post and share this post, because it is not just "yet another thing."  I joined this haircare company because these products are all of the points above and they are helping MY hair... and my friends' hair...and this company and the opportunity to join a brand new start-up with a minimum buy-in for those who want to work it, can be life-changing.  What life-changing means is different to everyone, but for me, I hope to really help people rock their own businesses and learn skills we didn't know we had in training and marketing while having FUN!

Looking for some good news

  A young mom died in our community today.  I didn't know her well at all--I racked my brain trying to remember when we first met...Perhaps she came in the store I managed years ago, maybe the pool, maybe at a Bunco game where she may have been a sub? The point is, she died suddenly.  She left behind a husband and 4 children.  And her family and friends are stricken with shock and grief, I am sure.  She likely had plans next week and next month. And at her age, 47 years old, she died far too young for any of us to understand. I can't turn on the news for good news...it is not there.  Our governor decided to announce today that schools in MD could go back and it was up to the districts to decide when.  I have seen people applaud loudly and protest loudly.  I am concerned for the teachers, perhaps even more than the children.  I have seen claims that this is really hurting our mental health, especially our children's....what happens to our teac...

Covid is making us sick in more ways than one...

So far, my family and close friends have remained well.  I pray it stays that way, although as we become required to "get out there" to keep our jobs, masked and with hand sanitizer, we are exposed to more people...so I pray that if we get sick, we do not get too sick.  In March, it kept me up at night....now it is just a constant, "GULP, hope we are okay." Today, twenty people I use to work with were laid off.  They were laid off by a place I love, respect and know that the decision was not made lightly.  And it just plain sucks.  It is the way of the world right now--and this economical position puts into light, the importance or lack of importance of so many things. Our child care center is closing on our community college campus.  There is a director, an assistant director and an administrator.  I was that administrator from 2012-15.  I learned SO much in that position and feel confident that the current administrator and her skill set will he...
